I completed my study today and as I read through the Psalms and did the study, I realized that we (I) do not take complete obedience to the Lord's precepts as seriously as I should. We all do the big things, but complete obedience to the smaller precepts is harder and easier to overlook. Wouldn't you love to stand before Jesus and for Him to call you blameless? or uprightness of heart? or for Him to have found no unrighteousness? To be able to look at God's word and to not feel ashamed because I have been obedient in all areas of my life. You can hear the joy of the psalmist as he reads the word of God. Maybe I could begin there~

I agree. Because we live in the "age of grace" and under the blood of Jesus Christ, I tend to minimize the call of complete obedience. I was reminded in Matt 5:17 that Jesus came not to abolish the Law but to fulfill it. In following Christ's example then I must strive to keep His statutes, laws, precepts, & commandments "diligently."(Ps 119:4). How blessed indeed to be one whose way is blameless, who walks in the law of the Lord. Can you imagine?
ReplyDeleteI was particularly struck by the discussion on the Old Testament covenant between God and His people. Deut 31:16 is chilling. God knew the Israelites would forsake Him and break the covenant. God doesn't break His covenant, the people do. How many times have I brought evils & trouble upon myself because I forsook God and did not keep His statutes? It's enough to make me fall on my face with the psalmist and plead "do not forsake me utterly."
What a way to start a Bible study! On a lighter note, did anyone do the psalm on page 17? Any suggestions for the letter X?
