Wait for the Lord

God is good. This Bible study has reminded me daily how important His Word is. But mostly I was thinking in generalities. I know His Word is true, His statutes trustworthy, His commandments meant to be obeyed. We've talked about delighting in His Word, again more often than not it's vague concept for me, taking delight in His Word as a whole. This morning God broke through my limited (feeble) mindset and gave me a clear, concise word, right where I sat, just when I needed it. And suddenly I began to understand the psalmists heart in a whole new way. As many of you know, Leroy and I are seeking a church home. It's been over a year, and we are confused, unsure, and basically bobbing around on the ocean of christianity with our life vests on, boatless and drifting, looking for our dock, or at least a lighthouse. (Leroy's into sailing, so forgive the analogy). Anyway, we have visited several wonderful churches in the area, but haven't felt peace about any of them. Still we go, and today we were at yet another local Baptist church and the message came from Psalms (hello. . .) The text was "Wait for the Lord, be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord." Psalm 27:14. The pastor went on to the put the psalm in context and said that at this point in David's life, it had been at least 13 years since Samuel had annointed him to be king of Israel and David must have been wondering why he was fleeing King Saul and hiding out in the mountains instead of sitting on the throne. Turns out David had to wait roughly 20 years or so before God brought him fully to his place of purpose. A light went on for me. David's words in the psalms are specific to his situation. And God used them to give me peace. It was like He reached down from heaven and said, Jane, just wait for me, be strong and take heart, I will lead you to a church home, just wait for me. What a relief and what peace. I hope we don't have to wait 20 years, but I can truly say with the psalmist "I wait for your word." 119:81
